2015 USA Road Trip Day 15: a few more hours in San Francisco CA
Had a quick walk around the block this morning and took some more pictures of Union Square and surroundings in a bit more sunshine. I had a non-hotel breakfast for the first time in Lefty O'Doul's, next door to where I was staying.
After I checked out I had a bit of time to kill so I wandered around the Tenderloin district (yes, it's actually called that, don't know why). Also caught a Falun Gong parade too.
I met my friend Paige and her friend Jason for lunch at Lori's Diner and I had a hot dog and fries - probably the smallest meal I've sat down for since I got to the USA, and it was the right amount to eat too! After that I went to a couple of places on the way to the airport - first to Lombard Street. Some of the roads in that area have insane inclines - I was driving down Jones around Union and Green and I haven't driven steeper hills anywhere in the world - the camera finds it hard to do it justice. Lombard Street itself is famous for the section full of twists and turns, which takes about a minute to drive down. I had the road to myself when I went down it although after that there was a stream of vehicles, and lots of people all around taking photos of the cars coming down the hill.
Heading towards the airport now and I stopped off at Candlestick Park. This was the home of the San Francisco 49ers until last year and they have just started demolishing the stadium. It was the last venue that the Beatles performed a show at (rooftop performances not counting) and as you can see, Paul McCartney called time on the stadium last year. The advertising is still up for it - perhaps just to remind everyone it's closed down now, and who closed it.
The drive to the airport from there is through some industrial estate backroads which had no traffic on them at all - and I just had time to stop off at the wind harp. This is another 94 ft tall monstrosity which apparently plays music when it's very windy, although I didn't hear anything today. There were two other guys there who seemed to be launching a video camera on some helium balloons - I'm not sure who thought who was madder, them or me taking more pictures!
Final score: just short of 4,000 miles

I think I'm meant to do an "About" here but I think you'd be more interested in seeing a random seagull.
