Aris Salonica

Aris are my "second team", purely based on the fact that my uncle Mimis (Dimitris) played for them in the 1960s. This is him, first on the left, top row:

... which I photographed from the Aris history book in their club shop. I make some rash decisions but even I won't buy a book completely in Greek for €35.

His surname is Gribelakos, but Greek doesn't have a "b" sound (it's not the beta, that's a "v"!) so it uses mp instead. Therefore he translates into Latin as Gribelakos (correct) or Grimbelakos/Grimpelakos (not really correct). All the same it's very hard to find details of him on the web but at last you can now get a few bits come up. This was from http://ierolohites.tripod.com/eurofoot.htm and I decided to save it for posterity.

ARIS couldn't be absent from the European fields, as it was and still is a club that aims very high, as every season starts with dreams and ambitions. Even when ARIS were outsiders, they always believed that next year the team could do a lot better.
The first time that ARIS played in Europe was in 1964, in the today- named "UEFA Cup". The games that ARIS gave in Europe are below :

I think I'm meant to do an "About" here but I think you'd be more interested in seeing a random seagull.
