It was 29 degrees C (84 F) – you don’t forget something like that when you’re in Iceland. She played a fantastic acoustic version of this song which I downloaded from RUV’s website (the Icelandic TV company) but I’m not sure what I did with it.

There’s a real DEARTH, an utter dearth in fact, of Kenickie videos on Youtube but I didn find this one, from one of her rare post-Kenickie outings.

In fact it’s wasted as a Christmas single – it’s another slab of shoegazing brilliance.

Earl Brutus are basically the Fall meets Kraftwerk. Believe it or not this is an example of a song A-listed by the London-wide FM-licenced XFM back in late 1997. In the days before Myspace (still great for hopping around from bandsite to bandsite) I found a lot of bands like this thanks to XFM. Can’t bear to listen to it now.

Earl Brutus’s lead singer, Nick Sanderson, died of cancer in June 2008 aged 47. The band had been on hiatus for several years and had just got together to practice for some more live shows. They’re one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live so this was doubly gutting.

The quality on this video is NOT great but I’m utterly amazed someone had it and Youtubed it all the same. This is from an appearance on the Word in 1993, and I remember watching this at the time on one of my many Friday nights back from the pub. You just don’t forget a singer in a wedding dress, no matter what they’re singing.

This lot are long gone now and were just a name in the music press to me, when I was listening to and buying up a ton of similar music. This is from 2000 and inspired some other blog which I read regularly. I’m still perplexed regarding the placing of the apostrophe after the N and the absence of the one before it. Surely ‘N’ would be more appropriate?
