Dydd Miwsig Cymru: Morgan Elwy, Tew Tew Tennau, Mynadd – Y Institwt, Llanfair Caereinion

Welsh Music Day! This was our first gig since moving to Wales – and in a very small village hall too, which was actually a lot bigger once you got inside.

I didn’t know anything about the acts, but was very happy to go out and open our gig account here. Mynadd were kind of piano-led rock, Tew Tew Tennau (Welsh for fat fat skinny) were more indie/rock, reminding me of the Bluetones, and Morgan Elwy was a Welsh language reggae singer.

There was a fairly decent crowd – there is a Welsh language school in the town and there were about 50-100 teenagers in the big hall, which was seated around tables.

The event was put on by Welsh youth organisation Urdd, and acted as a launch gig for the Triban festival which is part of the Urdd, taking place at the end of May.

I did get chatting with the organiser and also with the security man, who was originally from Barking and supports West Ham.
