Fightmilk, Tugboat Captain – Paper Dress Vintage, Hackney

The start of a three-day gig weekend back in London for us! Originally we’d booked to see They Might Be Giants on the Sunday, but they had cancelled their gig (before we moved to Wales) and rearranged it for 12 months later, so we knew we had a visit back this weekend.

It then turned out that the Darling Buds announced a London gig on the Saturday, so we booked that too. AND Fightmilk very kindly decided to have an album release show for No Souvenirs on the Friday too, so we headed back today for three nights.

It was our first time at Paper Dress Vintage, which is – as you’d expect – a vintage clothes shop, but with a room with a stage and sound system upstairs.

I missed adults, but the other support band Tugboat Captain were really good – first time I had heard any of their stuff. They have a real Neil Hannonesque way of telling stories through their songs.

Fightmilk were as gloriously shouty and tuneful as ever. New album No Souvenirs is looking as good as the last one and they ran through most of the songs tonight.

I chatted with both bands for a while afterwards. Good to be back in London!
