Marc Almond – Albery Theatre, Charing Cross
I remember this gig specifically as me and Mrs RP had walked in to a nearby pub and it was only after we ordered we realised it was, erm, biased towards the LGBTIQA+ community – and 100% male before we got there. In 1998 we got a LOT of stares. Today I don’t think anyone would have batted an eyelid. We chilled out for a bit there – I never really cared much what strangers thought about me.
Marc had played a whole week of gigs at this theatre, which was renamed in 2006 as the Noël Coward Theatre. I don’t remember a lot about it, but it was a long set, a couple of Soft Cell numbers and some Marc and the Mambas too.
Way back in 2006, Andy Young posted a track from this show to YouTube. Thanks Andy, wherever you are!
