Phoenix FM Live Sessions: Mannequins, Straights, Soprano, Kenai, Brights, Closure, Never Means Maybe, Ferrungenous Buzzard

Someone at my beloved Phoenix FM came up with the catchy name. “Live Sessions”? Isn’t that just a “gig”?

Anyway – we booked out the Brentwood Theatre and had eight bands wander in and out during the day. We never heard again from a few of these.

I’d originally noted that the first band on was Ferungenous Brothers which I thought was a great name as it was a take on “Ferrungenous Buzzard”. No, it turned out they were actually called Ferrungenous Buzzard.

The show was a fundraiser – our most successful one, as it raised over £600 for community radio funds. Mannequins brought in exactly 100 people at five quid a ticket. The Straights brought in 15 and Ferrungenous Buzzard brought in 5. The other 5 bands brought in precisely zero paying punters between them.
