Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope
We actually went on a real excursion today! This was on a double decker bus, like the city sightseeing ones you see everywhere. It cost R995 (£40) each and at least half of that included the fees to get into Cape Point Park.
We picked the bus up from just opposite our hotel at 9.40am. It took about two and a half hours to reach Cape Point, a promontory at the extreme south-west tip of Africa, about 40 miles due south of the centre of Cape Town.
We drove through some very picturesque towns – Fish Hoek, Kommetjie, Slangkop. Eventually we reached Cape Point, and had a couple of hours to wander around.
After this we had a short drive to the Cape of Good Hope – not the most southernly part of Africa (that’s Cape Agulhas, which we decided was too far away) but the most southwesternly. Lots of people taking photos here. None of me, but I did get a photo of a bunch of Canadians who came on a different coach.
