Steve Hackett – The Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff-on-Sea
My fifth Steve Hackett show of the decade! Never expected that if I was to make predictions in 2010.
The show was part of his Genesis Revisited 2019 tour – the 82nd of 83 dates. Steve also released his 25th studio album this year, At The Edge Of Light, which reached no 28 in the UK album charts (no 12 in Scotland, who still love their classic rock more than the English!) and also charted in 8 other countries in Europe, including Germany where it reached no 13. It was his fifth album in the 2010s too.
Have to keep reminding myself that Steve Hackett is 69 years old …
Set 1 was all solo stuff – good to hear some of these songs again, as it’s been years since I was regularly playing his solo albums at home.
Set 2 was all Genesis of course, which is why the Cliffs was sold out again – his band does sound great though, with Nad Sylvan continuing to sound more and more Peter Gabrielesque. It included Déjà Vu, a song started by Peter Gabriel in 1973 during the Selling England by the Pound sessions but not finished or released, until Hackett completed the song for his 1996 album Genesis Revisited.
